I was planning to be in that festival probably from the day i heard that theres going to be one in October.
I saw some adds. which said that theres going to be troups from all-around and its going to be fun.
I was interested specially to see the Bangla Groups which were supposed to come…….then got delayed and swayed by office and work, got time only this Tuesday to reach Rangasankara and see whats going on ( Its really good that its near my house). I got treat of a kind when the bengali play which i was looking for was just the next day and which also means i got enough time to buy a ticket for me. That was not all theres a concept of platform performance which is going on there, where the amateur artists from different walk of life comes and put up a performace , like the colleges and the corporates mainly.
I was in for a real performance on Tuesday itself as there was a group called ‘Drum circle’ which played hand drums and were cheerful enough to give everybody standing round to play something or the other, added to the sundry knowledge about the hand drums we also got to beat out heart out from the instruments, the funniest part is I never knew theres actually going to be a rhythm out of all these.
On Wednesday we had two plays (Natok as we call it in bengali). The first one was a translation of a famous French Play (“SAMUDRER MOUNA”) on a family and a german soldier at the time of french-german war, Kaushik Sen was at his best so was each and every one of them (Its always good to experience a good pro. theater group working in full swing).
The second Play would always be one of my favorites as we grew up with these stories (“BANKUBABUR BANDHU”) of Satyajit Ray, only this time it trippled up with the Bangla Band and Sukumar Ray’s Poems.
All in all a golden day for a theater lover or a person who loves good things in life……………..
Now if only i can get my hands on a ticket of Sunday’s (“Jameela Bai Kalaali “)!
