The name is Somokal (সমকাল) which in Bengali means “the times of NOW” . a Bengali by-weekly published from the eastern part of Kolkata.
I mean its high time we get out from the habit of skimming through the tabloids which are served to us as newspapers every morning. You know this papers are not to be blamed either, they sale whatever people buys.
The page 3s are spread now till page 8-9 and have started showing up in the front pages as well, I donot even remember when i could had a decent read on a political-economic-social scoup, investigative reporting or some real story on real(non-silicon) issues.
I heard my friends in the industry saying that there are reporters queing for page 3 and entertainment reporting and easy fun and the real stories have dearth of takers.
Anyways this one talks about the real issues, and places writeups on things that are business of all and which people relates to everyday.
The person behind this “movement” has a strong understanding of the political events, moves that the parties, individuals make, he was also associated with politics personally in his student’s life rubbing shoulders with the MLA-MPs of now. He was there when things unfolded, he was there from the inceptions of the ideas of new India and what made things happen.
what makes this better than anything else is the insight and the truth which it exuberates from the occurrence happening around. it gives us the power of knowledge and elevates us from being just a mum bystander to an empowered individual with gunpowder to make things count.
